On a calm, sunny fall morning, a private graveside service was held at Hillside Cemetery in Bev’s honour. Her life was further celebrated in Consul where family and friends united to share memories of this much loved lady.

God saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb
So he closed your weary eyes and
Whispered “Peace be thine.”

She leaves to cherish her memory her three sons; Stan (Bev) of Medicine Hat, Barrey (Linda) of Summerville, NFLD, and Wes (Carol) of Medicine Hat; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her biological mother, Lottie Baaske; adopted parents Femmie and Henry Kakkinen; two brothers; one sister; grandson, Dean in 1988; son in-law, Herman Dupmeier in 1996; husband, Emil in 2005; and daughter Shirley in 2009. Vivian was born in Edmonton, AB on March 22, 1926 to Lottie Baaske and at three months of age she was adopted by Henry and Femmie Kakkinen of Manyberries. She was named Vivian Ardella Kakkinen and received her education at New Home School. On April 6, 1943 she married Emil Stuber. Together they farmed and ranched in the Manyberries area until moving into their home in Medicine Hat in 1981. Vivian worked alongside Emil, cultivating, combining, etc. until the boys got big enough to take over, though she still helped on the farm driving the Peterbuilt truck and trailer hauling hay bales off the field well into her 80’s. She was very active in the community, organizing the New Home and Manyberries School Homecomings. She was president of the Manyberries History Book Club and along with many others published the Manyberries Chinook history book. She loved the outdoors, planting her flower and vegetable gardens, and was very proud when she and Emil won a Farm Beautification award in 1976 from County of 40 Mile. She and Emil enjoyed travelling, especially to Hawaii; Alaska by motorhome; and numerous other trips. CARL JEROME ALLARD

August 16, 1953 ~ October 27, 2019

On October 27, 2019, Carl Jerome Allard, lowlife biker trash and soulmate to Kelly, passed away and is now riding free. A hard man to kill, medical staff dubbed him ‘The Miracle Man’. Carl passed away from Esophageal Cancer, his second cancer since 1989. An only child born to Lila and Joseph Allard in Empress, AB., Carl spawned nine offspring; Kelci (Clay), Lynsey (Rick), Megan (Peter), Andy (Kyla), Dustin, Arlen (Krissy), Tedd, Joe (Sylvie) and Renee as well as many grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Carl worked on the family farm as a child, running all kinds of equipment at a young age. He loved being an equipment operator and especially using the High Hoe. Carl enjoyed long haul trucking with over two million miles under his belt. Kelly started trucking with him when the kids moved out, but until then, they relied on their radar love. Carl and Kelly had their first date 31 years ago and have been together ever since. Carl even threw away his Little Black Book. His third marriage would be the last. They met when Kelly lived right next door to his first ex-wife. Kelly had two children and Carl adopted them; he stepped in when their bio-dad stepped out. Carl taught Kelly how to ride motorcycle bringing out the crazy biker-bitch in her and she brought out the crazy cat-man in him. Their love for each other was legendary as he was her Sweet Cheeks and she was his Boo Angel. Carl had many sides; wild, passionate, tender, mischievous and loving. He had a way with people, charming many women. Upon meeting him, Kelly’s grandmother told her, she would not worry about Kelly anymore. Carl loved motorcycles and he built his first Harley with his dad at the age of 12 years. He did things his way, far too independent to join a club. The only rules he followed were his own and the only opinions that mattered were his and Kelly’s. Carl loved kids, he melted around babies. An incredible man, husband and father he was man enough to show his feelings. Carl loved animals and would not stand idly by when people were cruel, even teaching some a very painful lesson. While the world is a lesser place by his absence, heaven / the afterlife / whatever; is a much brighter, far more interesting place. As Carl would say, “Freedom”.

“Ride free my love, I will take you with me wherever I go. You always told people that I ‘had your six’, now you will have mine as you watch over me”.

A private time of remembrance will be held by the family. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website at http://www.cooksouthland.com) Honoured to serve the family is

Cook’s lobby was bustling with conversation as family greeted friends who joined them to celebrate the life of a remarkable lady, Daisy Behiel. Her heart-warming smile will not soon be forgotten.

A chance to laugh and smile,
Family was always first,
She went that ‘extra mile’.

ROBERT BLOCK

(August 11, 1920 – October 28, 2019)

Oh, what a life! Bob Block lived a rich and full life that, if he could have chosen, would have been absent of fools (with an exception for those who played the role on stage).
Bob was born in London, an only child to Andrew and Tynia and quickly became immersed in his father’s world of rare books, which would be a central part of his life. His working life began (and ended) in public libraries, starting at St. Pancras in London.
He served in the RAF in WWII, with such incredible luck that he was posted to Calgary rather than Libya, crossed the Atlantic on the Queen Elizabeth, a ship with the horsepower to outrun German U-Boats lying in wait in the north Atlantic and had his late-war combat mission to Japan rerouted to Hong Kong after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki led to Japan’s surrender.
His charmed life continued in Canada. He met Doris Ryer (1921-2004) in Calgary, married in 1944 and then contributed extensively to the Canadian baby boom, with six children: Eva (Rick), David (Rebecca), Naomi (Gary), Leslie (Grace), Susan and Peter (Barb) born over the next 18 years and grandchildren and great grandchildren following ever since.
His love of the arts (which he credits to his mother’s influence) saw him run music societies during the war, “star” on stage, making his own contribution to the world’s longest running play, The Mousetrap (performing in Medicine Hat, not London), lead the film society in Edmonton, and host radio and TV shows on books and the arts in Medicine Hat.
His “formal” career included developing recreation programs (in Kitimat and Edmonton) and running the Medicine Hat Public Library (twice). His post-retirement career was devoted to taking over his father’s antiquarian book business, with regular pilgrimages back to London to source first editions and unique finds and then engage his global network of collectors with his impressive trove of rarities. For Bob, books represented ideas and free thinking and the more exchange of these, the better.
While he led many associations and served as a school trustee in Medicine Hat, he would shudder at being labelled a “pillar of the community”. He was a champion of new, different and fresh – accepting of all and begrudging only fools and those resistant to change. He embodied eclecticism – a love of Shakespeare and Beethoven was matched by an equal admiration of Joe Orton and Pink Floyd. He left a little of himself (both good and bad) in each of his children, all of whom will have their own lifetime of memories to cherish.
A graveside service for Bob is being planned for the spring of 2020, in his 100th year. To e-mail an expression of sympathy, please direct it to: pattfh@telusplanet.net subject heading: Bob Block, or you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com and leave a message of condolence.

She also leaves to cherish her memory two children, Denine (John) Welsh and their children Liam and Caiden; Ryan Krutzler and his daughter Kiarra; two brothers, Dwayne (Angela) and Tony (Gwen); four sisters, Marlene (George), Margaret, Isabelle (Ian), Marie and Bernice; sister-in-law Alice as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Rose and Joseph Ries and her siblings, Joe, Gordon and Josephine. Though her time with us was shorter than we could have imagined it was filled with an abundance of love for everyone in her life. She was born in Prelate, Saskatchewan where she grew up on a simple farm and attended Liebenthal School, then in 1965, her family moved to Medicine Hat. While attending St. Mary’s School Bernie met her future husband Bruce at the young age of 14 through mutual friends and began dating. In 1973 they married, begin their family, and remained together for the next 46 years. During her life she worked alongside her sisters at National Porcelain, as a housekeeper at the Imperial Inn and as a caregiver for WeCare. Bernie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who took great pleasure in taking care of her loved ones. She was the rock of our family; always organizing schedules and making sure everyone was where they needed to be. If you needed to talk, to hear a calming voice or sound advice she was the one to call. One of her passions was crafting, especially scrapbooking. She would often spend hours in her craft room combing through the scrapbooking sites on her computer looking for new projects to create. Her greatest creation being memory albums made for each of her grandchildren. Bernie’s love will forever be felt in the hearts of those were blessed to have known her.

1919 ~ Esther Susanna Kleckner ~ 2019

Quietly and peacefully she left our world and passed into the arms of God on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the age of 100 years. Esther was the youngest of 10 children born to Fredrich & Susanna Wildeman. She was born in Esk, Saskatchewan on June 4, 1919. The baby of the family was spoiled accordingly by her Dad, her brothers & sisters. She was bit of a tomboy and inheriting the mischievous streak from her siblings, could be found partaking in some sort of pranks around the town of Esk and the neighboring community. Esk was full of the Wildeman Family; aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers & sisters were all within a stone throw. Many wonderful memories were created as family met together on a weekly basis following Sunday morning church for fun, food and visiting. Mom was two years old when her oldest sister was married. She was closer in age to her nephews and nieces creating continuous strong bonds and friendships. During the depression, young men came to the Wildeman farm looking for work. One of these fellas had walked hundreds of miles from his home in Woodley, Saskachewan looking for a job. It was there that Esther first laid eyes on her future husband, John Kleckner. Soon after, a double wedding was held on November 3, 1938 in the Esk Evangelical United Brethren Church, sharing the day with Esther’s sister Clara & Ewald Pede, it was the event of the community. Esther & John resided in Esk for many years. It was during this time that their two sons, Rodney & Albert were born. Thirteen years later their daughter Patricia Ann entered the world. While John farmed and moved buildings, Esther managed the General Store & Post Office. Many happy and wonderful memories were made at their home in Esk. In 1957 John & Esther moved their family to Medicine Hat. Together, they managed motels, apartments, were cooks as well as dorm parents at the Hillcrest Bible School. Mom also worked at Kresge’s Department Store for many years and made friends wherever she went. She was predeceased by her parents, 6 brothers and 3 sisters, her brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law and her husband & lifelong best friend and companion, John Kleckner. She is survived by her children, Rodney (Edna), Albert & Patricia (Don) Borrows. She was blessed with 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Isabelle Kleckner & numerous nephews & nieces. Mom’s life was well lived as a precious gift of hope and grace and she made this world a much brighter place. She was content in all situations. She made the best apple pie – something that everyone in her family will attest to and no one has been able to duplicate. She welcomed all into her home without pretense or fanfare. All were welcome – anytime – anywhere. There was always room for one more at the table. No one was ever turned away. Mom’s hands were never idle. Baking, cooking, knitting, crocheting – always giving her finished treasures away to whomever would come through her door. Her family was of utmost importance to her. She was happiest when her children & grandchildren were together, eating, laughing, playing crokinole and sharing times together. When mom turned 95, she stated in a firm and confident voice – “I am going to live to be 100!” She did it! She will live on in our hearts forever. “A golden heart stopped beating. Hard working hands were laid to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.” The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, on Saturday, November 9th, 2019 at 1:00 p.m with Pastor Clare Rattai officiating.

DAVIS, MARGARET PATRICIA

September 25, 1950 – November 15, 2019
The family of Margaret Davis is saddened to announce that she lost her courageous battle against cancer on November 15, 2019 at the age of 69. She spent her final days in the excellent care of the staff at the Tom Baker Centre in Calgary, surrounded by her girls.
She is survived by daughters Marie (Neil), Shannon (Chris) and Kelly (Alex), much-loved grandson Wyatt who brightened her days, and special “+1 daughter” Riley. She’s also survived by her siblings Merlin (Joanne), Mary Jean (Dwight) and Marvin (Kim), as well as an extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Merle & Marion Collins and her former husband Ronald Davis.
Margaret was born in Medicine Hat and was schooled in Conquerville, Bow Island and Foremost. She married Ron and the pair farmed northeast of Etzikom for 20 years where she became certified in Artificial Insemination, raised Simmental cattle, operated her own school bus route, and acted as chief cook and hired hand, briefly studying nursing before completing a B.Sc. in Education.
Over the years, she worked and volunteered in numerous capacities: MHC campus newspaper paste-up artist, community television videographer, rec hockey score and timekeeper, substitute teacher, casino cash room counter, cab driver, member of the Etzikom School Reunion and 40 Mile FCSS board to name a few. More recently, she turned her love of woodworking and crafting into a business that she ran with her daughter Kelly. She enjoyed attending craft fairs and engaging with potential customers.
Marg was well known for her unusual sense of humour and perspective on life. She famously always brought her own egg to community pancake suppers (“what are pancakes without an egg?”), loved trying new things, sports trivia, word puzzles, games of bingo with her girls, and embraced the silliness in life, even when times were tough. She was an amazing cook, always on the lookout for the next good deal, and a reno-show addict. She made an impact on the lives of people around her in a life filled with crazy adventures.
The family is grateful for the wonderful care and support she received while at the Tom Baker Centre. She embraced the nurses and personal care staff as friends and their kindness and compassion made her final days as peaceful as possible.
Margaret requested no funeral service, though a celebration of her life will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
