Beatrice leaves to cherish her memory six children: Arnold Pederson, Leonard Pederson, Brian Pederson, Miriam Herman, Anita Runions, and Bernice (Cory) Fode. Even without formal schooling, her mathematical skills were exceptional and she utilized them regularly while maintaining the farm financials. Beatrice loved her family and grandchildren often preparing big meals for all to enjoy and supported watching their activities throughout the years. She loved to read and was very up to date on current events and politics. She was a long term supporter of the NDP party and her quick wit and good sense of humor made her a pleasure to visit with, especially if you wanted to talk politics with this strong NDP supporter! It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ellis (Edgee) Harvey Hill announce his passing at the St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Friday, July 26, 2019, at the age of 85 years. Ellis was born to Harvey and Edythe Hill on November 5, 1933 at Armley, Saskatchewan. He was raised and lived most of his life on the family farm in the Carlea area near Aylsham, attending Free State country school and Aylsham School thereafter. He married Margaret Wassill on July 4, 1959, celebrating 60 adventurous years together this past July. Ellis was a life-long grain farmer and part owner and manager of Carlea Alfalfa Processors Limited. As a young man, Edgee played hockey and baseball. He coached hockey, including his boys when they were young. Ellis enjoyed watching sports including hockey, baseball and football. Eventually he stopped watching hockey because of the unnecessary violence. Ellis was an accomplished curler and golfed. Ellis took great interest in aviation, developments in technology, WWII, photography, travel, politics and current events. He particularly enjoyed when he and Margaret cared for the grandchildren. He enjoyed listening to what the kids had to say and seeing how they thought. Ellis was a practical man, loving to his family and community minded. He believed strongly in self-reliance and responsibility both in his personal life and in his expectations of others. He ran as a political candidate in a Saskatchewan election. A resourceful and inventive individual, he took pride in making things work whether it was a machine, business or other aspects of his life. Ellis was a life-long learner, a good manager and took pride in being fair. He represented farmers in international marketing efforts for canola (rapeseed), alfalfa and barley. He made trade related trips to Japan, South Korea, Portugal and eastern Europe. Ellis and Margaret thrived on travel and visited all the continents except Antarctica. He piloted private aircraft in travels with Margaret throughout Canada, USA, Mexico and eastern Australia. He was a member of the Flying Farmers and was a founding director of the Saskatchewan Rapeseed Grower’s Association (later Canola Growers). Ellis was a Nipawin School Board Trustee for almost a decade starting in 1975 and was a member of Alfalfa industry groups. His memory will be cherished in the hearts of his wife, Margaret; children, Harvey (Marie), Kevin (Gail), Bradley (Cathy) and Monica (Daniel); grandchildren, Michael, Elizabeth, Caroline, Matthew, Patrick, Geoffrey, Jessica, Andrew, Bree and Nylagh. 1947 ~ LEO CORNET ~ 2019

On Monday, July 29th, 2019, Leo Cornet, passed away in the arms of his love, Diane, at St. Joseph's Carmel Hospice. Leo also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Matthew (Patricia) Cornet and Jessica (Joey) Thiessen; grandchildren, Waylon Cornet and Dylan Cornet; brothers, Robert (Toni) and Maurice (Pearl); sister, Julie; and Diane’s family, daughter, Bonnie (Jason), son Marc; and her grandchildren, Matt, Kaiden, Aiden and Naish. Leo was predeceased by the mother of his children, Sandra; his parents, Rene and Annette; and his brother, Daniel. Leo was born in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan on November 22, 1947, to Rene and Annette Cornet, and was the third child in a family of five. In 1959, the family moved to Medicine Hat and this is where Leo spent most of his years. Leo loved life. He had an infectious smile and he loved music. From the early days playing with the Crescendos, the River Bottom Band and then Springfield, and then to the past few years with his buds in Caught Red Handed. Music was his passion and he played his harps and sang wherever he travelled; from Huatulco to Montego Bay to winters spent near Quartzite, Arizona. He also enjoyed fishing and was thrilled when he landed his huge sailfish and Dorado in Mexico as well as many a walleye at Calling Lake. Leo was responsible for starting the Saturday Jams at the Royal Hotel which over the years became famous across Canada. He was also one of the first few riders in the original Santa Claus Toy Run. Only one week ago, on July 20th, Leo was humbled by his friends and family that came out for his One Last Jam at the Redcliff Hylton. Leo was surrounded with an aura of joy as he played his harps and sang with fellow musicians and reminisced with friends. This was Leo's wish and we are so thankful to everyone for making it happen. Our little buddy is now playing music in heaven. The family would like to thank all of Leo’s caregivers for the love and support offered to Leo and his family during his time of illness. In keeping with Leo’s wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Memorial gifts in Leo’s memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 2P5 Condolences may be sent through http://www.saamis.com or to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Leo Cornet. JAMES FRENCH

November 6, 1944 ~ July 28, 2019

Mr. James Francis French, beloved husband of Sharon, passed away suddenly in Medicine Hat on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at the age of 74 years. Along with Sharon, Jim leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Andrea French and Tina (James) Grant all of Medicine Hat and grandson, Grayson Weir of Calgary. Jim will also be remembered by his three sisters, Lorna (Max) Lane, Barb (Larry) Gabrielle and Wendy (Rob) Wallace; brother, Keith (Tannis) Gardner; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim (Madeline) Tvedt, Diane Mcauley, Karin (Murray) McMillan, Judy (Jim) Crawford and Bob McNabb as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom Jim adored. Jim was predeceased by his beloved parents, Mary and Wilson Gardner; mother and father-in-law, Ken and June Tvedt; brothers-in-law, Graeme Remple and Ron Mcauley as well as his sister-in-law, Sheila McNab. Jim was born on November 6, 1944, in Brandon, Manitoba and upon the union of his mom, Mary and step-father, Wilson, moved to the Gardner family farm in Lenore, MB in 1950. Jim married the love of his life and best friend, Sharon Tvedt on December 27, 1965 and welcomed daughters, Andrea on April 1, 1966 and Tina on February 17, 1967. Jim began his career in the fertilizer industry during these years at Simplot Canada Ltd. in Brandon, MB and in 1976 moved his family to Medicine Hat to begin his over 30 year tenure at Canadian Fertilizers. Jim retired after an overall 40 year career in the industry as supervisor/lead industrial chemist. Jim was a fiercely loyal and devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He never did anything by half measures where family or friends were concerned. Jim was known to refer to his wife, Sharon and daughters, Andrea and Tina as as “his girls” whom without question or hesitation would do anything for. Jim was overjoyed when his “little shadow”, grandson, Grayson joined the family on March 26, 1988. Grayson idolized his “GPa” who was always present and accounted for in every milestone of Grayson’s life, big or small. They were best buddies. Jim had practice for being the best “GPa” ever for his years of being the best dad ever. He doted on his daughters from the moment they were born to the final moments of his life. He was incredibly proud of them and they, equally that they had the honour and privilege to call him Dad. Jim’s loyalty and devotion though was never more evident than with his wife and best friend, Sharon. For the almost 54 years of marriage, they were inseparable; the true definition of the perfect team. This team was notably more successful as Jim was always sure to remind Sharon that she was “team captain”. There is no doubt, Jim was a smart man! Jim and Sharon travelled extensively before and after retirement. Those vacations were enjoyed as a couple, with many vacations to also include his children, grandson, brothers, sisters, in-laws and friends. Jim and Sharon made friends where ever they went with many of those new acquaintances becoming life long friendships. Jim being noted for his unique sense of humour, intelligence and people skills was a magnet to those he knew and met. Jim’s brother, Keith aptly describes him as “larger than life’. This sentiment is a consensus for all those that were blessed to know him. Jim was successful in the balance of working hard, playing hard and loving well. He was also a natural born athlete playing in almost every sport growing up but ended up being most passionate about baseball and curling which he continued to participate in well into his retirement years. A man is the sum of his actions and what he has done: to that end, Jim had a fierce and unshakeable belief in two things: hard work and taking care of his family. In this, he achieved honours. He loved us, we knew it. He supported us in everything we did. He was loving, devoted, intelligent, strongminded, tough and ambitious. Jim’s loss will be felt by many, a void impossible to fill, but with his loss, it confirms the fact that all of our lives were better for having had him in it. Jim was a gift to us that will forever be treasured, forever be missed, forever be remembered and forever be loved. The Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. A private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Jim’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice. He was instrumental in growing the company and working closely with a board of directors to develop a regional water system, piping safe drinking water to Bassano, Rosemary and other communities within the County of Newell. He was very passionate about his work and commuted to Brooks every day from Medicine Hat. Ralph was often heard saying that during the drive up he would think of plan A, while the drive home gave him time to come up with plan B. He loved and respected all of the people he worked with over the years. In 2004 he married his soulmate, Caroline Eberhardt who loved him dearly. Together they enjoyed many exciting travels to Europe as well as frequenting two of their favourite places, Florida and Hawaii. They also loved their trailer, spending time camping, fishing and recently purchased a RV lot in Radium, BC. Sharing many common interests, including their love of music, Ralph and Caroline enjoyed performing together during services at Victory Lutheran Church and belonging to the Medicine Hat College Adult Choir. When cancer became a part of their life in 2013, Ralph always remained strong and incredibly positive. After numerous setbacks and unbelievably tough surgeries, he always bounced back amazing us all with his strength and positive outlook on life. We would like to thank the many Doctors on his medical team Dr. Booyens, Dr. Graham, Dr. Kelly, Dr. Cheng, Dr. Elzinga, Dr. Faruqi as well as the many nurses andstaff involved with his care. Also to Home Care, Palliative Care and St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice. As a token of sympathy donations may be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre or Margery E. Yuill Cancer Clinic. The memorial service will take place Wednesday, August 7, at 1:00 p.m. at Victory Lutheran Church (2793 Southview Drive SE). KRASSMAN

Matilda “Tillie” Krassman –
Klaudt (Stickelmier)
With heavy hearts and with much sorrow we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, good friend and auntie. Mother was born November 21, 1926 to Jacob and Matilda Stickelmier in Odessa, Russia. Our grandparents and their four children immigrated to Canada. Our mother was 18 months old. They settled in Burstall, and later mom and her parents moved to Medicine Hat. She worked in a restaurant when she met the love of her life, our father Albert Klaudt. They married December 1, 1945, they lived and farmed on the Klaudt farm in Golden Prairie. She worked hard raising a family and helping our father. They were blessed with four children; Marleen, Garry, Ivan and Milton. They farmed until 1975 at which time mom, dad and Milton purchased the General Store in Burstall. In June 1976 our father passed away. Mom and Milt operated the store until 1978. Mother met and married Tony Krassman October 19, 1983, then moving to Medicine Hat. Mother was always busy. Travelling was her passion; seeing and doing new things. She belonged to the Lutheran Church and spent countless hours on committees, at conventions, etc. She loved golfing, and was on numerous bowling leagues, quilting groups and of course spent plenty of time in her flower and vegetable gardens. Most of all she loved being with and around all of us and our families. Those memories we will all cherish. It was always a special time in our house when Grandma visited, special memories were made. Mom is survived by her daughter Marleen Knoblick (Bobbie) of Kelowna, and their children Dean (Melanie) and Daryne (Nicole); Garry Klaudt (Alann) of Medicine Hat, and their families; Milt Klaudt (Linda) of Richmound and their children, Meghan (Todd) and Jordan (Candice) as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephres, sisters-in-law; Delores Stickelmier, Linda Stickelmier, Olinda Stickelmier; along with numerous cousins in Germany and many long time friends. Mom was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Matilda Stickelmier , our father Albert Klaudt, Tony Krassman, her infant son Ivan Duane Klaudt, brothers; Henry, Voldy and Ewald Stickelmier, one sister Erna Job, her sister-in-laws Millie Arndt and Elsie Neitz, and her brother-in-law Louis Job. Mother loved entertaining, cooking, and baking. There was always a pot of her delicious chicken noodle soup ready and for which she is famous. She instilled in us that hard work pays off, if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all and to enjoy our families and friends company as well as numerous other life skills. Mother we will miss your smile and never stop loving you. As we say so long, Dad and Ivan are waiting for you. Our thanks to Dr. Jonker, the staff at the Good Samaritan Society where she loved all the hugs and teasing. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the Pattison Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at the church from 9:30 – 10:25 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the St. Peter Lutheran Church (758 8th Street SE) on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with Chaplain Dallas Hjorth officiating. God saw you getting tired
when a cure was not to be.
So He closed His arms
around you and whispered
"Come to Me"

You didn't deserve what
you went through,
so He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful
He only takes the best.

And when we saw you sleeping
so peaceful and
free from pain,
we could not wish you back
to suffer that again.

A Private Family Time of Remembrance will take place. The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the Carmel Hospice at St. Joseph’s Home for their compassion and care of Lynda. Memorial gifts in Lynda's memory may be made to the Carmel Hospice at St. Joseph’s Home, 156 – 3rd Street NE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 5M1. Following Nadine’s passing, Shane did his very best to continue on living and enjoyed his annual trips to Fort Mohave, Arizona where he met up with friends and family to enjoy the sunshine and escape. He made so many new friends and countless memories and while he was away, his friends and family back home always looked forward to his return in the spring. When Shane returned from Arizona you could find him with his second family at Yukio Kennels which became his home in the summertime. 1934 ~ LAWRENCE MARTIN "LARRY" PLANTE ~ 2019

Dad was born on March 26th, in Gleichen, AB to parents Amie and Jean Plante. He was the oldest of four children. He was predeceased by his parents along with the love of his life, Peggy in 2017; son, Jim in 2016; and brother, Ed Plante in 2016. He is survived by son, Tom (Debbie) Plante; daughter, Laurel (Ken) Solheim; grandchildren, Ashley Plante, Stephanie Plante, Michelle Plante, Tyler Plante, April (Justin) Way, Sherri Plante, Aaron (Shae-Lee) Solheim, and Brett Solheim; great-grandchildren, Sutter Way and Eva Way; sisters, Mary Ellen (Armand) Corbiell and Carol Plante; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad grew up in the small community of Gleichen, AB, where he enjoyed a normal childhood of school and sports. It was also where he developed his ability to have fun, of which some of the stories are legendary. He excelled in both hockey and baseball, but it was hockey that brought him to Medicine Hat in 1952 to play for the original Medicine Hat Tigers hockey club, where he played for two seasons. In his career he played for the Tigers, Spokane Flyers, Drumheller Miners, and various Medicine Hat senior hockey clubs. Dad won numerous awards and All-Star nominations throughout his career and was offered a contract by the Boston Bruins to play professional hockey but while he was banking at a local Royal Bank, in the Fall of 1953, he met who turned out to be the love of his life, Peggy Morrison. His career goals changed, and they were married on June 18, 1955. They spent 63 years together until Mom’s passing in December of 2017. They raised a family, starting with their son, Jim, in January of 1956. Tom arrived on the scene in September of 1958, and Laurel completed their family in October of 1964. Dad worked as a butcher for a period at Gust’s food store but in 1960 he started working at the new Goodyear plant where he worked his way to Production Foreman until his retirement in January of 1991. He was a hard worker and a dedicated employee for 31 years and was a big influence on many family members who also have contributed to the success of the plant. After his retirement, he held part-time jobs at the Royal Hotel Beer Store and Cottonwood Coulee Golf Course. Dad was an avid sportsman. He was involved in both hockey and baseball as a coach, was on a six-man canoe team, and even bit the ear of a horse in a wild horse race at the Medicine Hat Stampede. He was one of the driving forces behind bringing professional baseball to Medicine Hat in the form of the Pioneer Baseball League in 1977. The Oakland A’s affiliate team played for one season and were followed by the Toronto Blue Jays from 1978 to 2002. He held various positions with the teams including general manager and concession manager. Mom and Dad also ran the Gas City Hockey School for several years and Dad spent many years along side Bob Ridley as a color man on Tiger radio broadcasts. Dad loved his family and especially his eight grandchildren with which he held a special bond. He was always there for them with guidance and never-ending love. He will be sadly missed by each of them. He will also be missed by his furry companion, Tookie, who was always by his side. The family would like to thank Dr. Jeraj, Dr. Foley, and Dr. Ahmad; the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Center; the Kidney Care Center; the health care aides at the Wellington Retirement Residence; and St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice for their treatment and unending support of our Dad and Grandfather. A Celebration of Dad’s life will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 1Z5 on Monday, August 26th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. 1958 ~ Diann Jean Simpson ~ 2019

On Thursday, August 22nd, 2019, Heaven gained the most beautiful, funniest, quirkiest, and coolest angel they could have ever hoped for. Diann Hammel-Simpson (aka Mommya) was, still is, and always will be the absolute BEST mom, daughter, sister and aunt in the entire universe. She was brought into the world by the lovely Maggie on September 10, 1958 at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Little did she know that she would go on to graduate from Bow Valley College, in 1983, and that she would then pursue an awesome career in nursing, working in B.C., Canmore (she always said, “The mountains will bring you peace”), and ending in Medicine Hat in the same hospital where she was born. In addition to being a kick-ass nurse, her proudest accomplishment was her only child, daughter, and little “Jellybean”, Dallas. She bragged and gushed about her to everyone every chance she had. They were (and always will be) each other’s best friends, confidantes, and rocks. Diann fiercely loved her six brothers and sisters, mom, daughter, and her friends. Especially Sis #1 and 3. Diann passed away surrounded by family and friends knowing how truly and deeply loved she was. Her last words were, “I love you”, and that is more than anyone could ask for. We are all going to miss her so very much, but we find comfort in our knowledge that when it is our time, Diann will be waiting for us at a kitchen table, beer in hand, ready to skunk our butts in a game of Yahtzee. Please, if you are able, and in honour of Diann, hug your parents a little tighter today and tell them how much you love them. Sometimes the most important things in life can be gone in the blink of an eye. To all of those who knew and loved Diann, you are invited to come and share your stories, and celebrate her fabulous life at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Tuesday, August 27th, 2019 at 1:00 p. m. A pizza party will be held after, as requested by Diann herself. Diann was a joyous and magical ray of sunshine and we would like to reflect that during her service so please wear bright and happy colours instead of depressing ones to pay tribute to her spirit. Gifts of dog food or cat food may be donated to your local S.P.C.A. in honour of Diann’s love for Zelda, Nixie “Poo-Poo” and Ronnie. Condolences may be sent through http://www.saamis.com or to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Diann Simpson. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to

ERIC STIGTER

1997 ~ 2019
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Eric Kalen Stigter announce his passing on Sunday, August 18, 2019, in Hardisty, Alberta at the age of 22 years. Eric’s life journey began on May 21, 1997 in Medicine Hat, a son born to proud parents, Barry and Michelle Stigter. He grew up in Redcliff where he made wonderful childhood memories with his family. Eric loved the outdoors and all it had to offer… family camping trips and hikes were some of the most memorable times of his life. Eric had a pure heart and his love for animals – especially cats and dogs, reflected in the way he treated them and would always be seen holding and cuddling his pets. He enjoyed technology and computers, playing video games, cooking and of course eating and munching on bags of candy. His sense of humour was unmatched and his infectious laugh and smile could light up a room. Family was most important to him and he was close with his grandparents and had a very special bond with his uncles, Wayne and Phil. Eric always looked up to his big brother, Ethan and adored his sister, Kate. He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. Beside his parents, Barry and Michelle, his memory will live on in the hearts of his brother, Ethan, sister, Kate; grandmother, Alice Stigter as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Edward and Evline Rabby and Lane Stigter. A Celebration of Eric’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Pahl officiating. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website http://www.cooksouthland.com) Memorial donations in Eric’s name may be made directly to Enviros (Shunda Creek) – please visit: http://www.enviros.org to donate. SIMON

Louis Simon passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at the age of 92 years, beloved husband of Dorothy Simon of 63 years. He also leaves to cherish his memory seven children, Karen (Martin) Leprieur, Curtis Simon, Tamara (Stephen) Lewis, Lori Simon, Lorne “Buddy” Simon, Robin (Maggie) Simon and Ron (Shanon) Simon; eight grandchildren, Amy (her children, Keatyn, Ariyanna, Harlow, Louis (Crystal) (their children Dallas, Karder, Avalyn and Noah), Kelsey, Marissa, Nicholas, Devin, Jaxson and Kian; one sister Liz (Bob) Noble; one sister-in-law Carol Bishop, brother-in-law Roger (Bev) Renschler, sister in-law Janet Renschler as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sons, Kelly, Terry and David; by his parents Emilia and Louis Simon; three brothers, Andrew and two in infancy; sister and brother in-law Joan and John Mezei, brother in-law Doug Renschler, brother and sister in-laws Garnieth and Joan Renschler. Louis was born on October 25, 1926 in Sajo Kaza, Hungary and came to Canada with his mother as a child of 3½ years old. His father was already here preparing a home. He went to school at Haig until he was fifteen, then started farming with his father. In 1955, he married the love of his life Dorothy Renschler; that union produced ten children. His was truly a life to celebrate. He left us a true legacy – be honest and true to your word – if you have a job to do – do it. Family and friends were very important. Louis was a Charter Member of the Conquerville Lions Club for sixty plus years, Fraternal Order of Eagles for fifty years, Steward of the Bow Island United Church and for nine years he served on the Alberta Turkey Board. Even in retirement he still enjoyed talking about farming and telling Buddy what he should plant and how much fertilizer to use. Our family isn’t fancy, perfect, worldly or famous – we are just us. No matter what, we are there for each other and it is one of the best feelings in the world. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m and at the church on Monday from 12:00 – 12:55 p.m. The funeral service will be held at HOLY FAMILY PARISH (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Gloria Angle presiding.
