FIEGAL

In the early hours of March 7, 2019 surrounded by family, our very loved mama and grandma ran into the arms of Jesus. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Jane (Brian) Heska of Okotoks, Glen (Kelly) Fiegal and Ted (Cindy) Fiegal all of Medicine Hat; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Clara and Ole Helgeson; her husband Irvin, one son David and two sisters Marion McGillivray and Ruth Payne. Anne was born on May 12, 1931, in Theodore, Saskatchewan to Ole and Clara Helgeson. The youngest of three girls, Anne was keen to help her father around the farm where she tended to animals for which she had special lifelong connections to, and spent special times with her sisters Marion and Ruth, whom she admired deeply and spoke fondly of until her passing. On January 17, 1951, in Theodore, Anne married Irvin Fiegal, the beau who waited five years for her. Together they made their home in Yorkton and welcomed their first son David. Shortly after, the small family relocated to Prelate, Saskatchewan to farm. In 1962, the family returned to Yorkton as a family of five, with the addition of Jane and Glen. The family unit was complete with the arrival of Ted, Anne’s “baby”, how she affectionately referred to him until her last days. Anne’s compassion and tender heart for all living things transpired into her calling to the profession of nursing. In 1974, Irvin and Anne along with their two youngest boys moved to Mill Bay, BC where Anne completed her formal nurses training as an LPN. After spending five years on the island, an opportunity to purchase land just minutes from Yorkton brought them back to the prairies and poplars where their journey started. Here they built the home where her children and grandchildren made cherished memories to last a lifetime. Anne and Irvin settled in Medicine Hat in 2002 and enjoyed their golden years continuing on the tradition of togetherness, and spending time gathered around the table with their children and grandchildren. Although Anne’s love and faithfulness to her family has left an imprint on our hearts, the true legacy was her love for God. Right until the end, Anne sang praises to the Father, and gave thanks until her last breath. With this, we are comforted by the blessed assurance of our salvation and eternal reunion with our Saviour. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday from 12 noon to 12:55 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Lyle Berg officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairieview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the S.P.C.A. – 55 Southwest Drive SW, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 8E8. FANDRICH

1945 – 2019
Bryan Edward Fandrich passed away at River Ridge Senior Center in Medicine Hat on March 7, 2019, at the age of 73 years. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Bonny in 2013, and by his parents Ed and Iris Fandrich. He is survived by three daughters: Leslie Fandrich (Chris Janata) of Warwick, New York, Jill (Mark) Braithwaite of Trail, British Columbia, Tracy (Allen) Woloshyniuk of Coalhurst, Alberta; and six grandchildren: Milo and Quinn Janata, Annaka and Bram Braithwaite, William and Nicole Woloshyniuk. Bryan is also survived by four siblings: Bruce Fandrich, Denyse (Bob) Yeast, Beverly (Christoph) Eversmann and Grant (Linda) Fandrich; and numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Bryan was born May 30, 1945 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He started working at his dad’s business, Fandrich Refrigeration, as a teenager and spent summers farming on his family’s farm at Hilda. He met Bonny Bouchard, the love of his life, in 1968 and they had a wonderful life together. At age 23, he bought a vacant lot on the Flats and designed and built his own house. He loved to travel with his family in the van, camping all over western Canada and the US. He dreamt about flying fighter jets but had to settle for watching the movie Top Gun at least fifty times.
When his dad slowed down, focusing on the domestic calls, Bryan started his own successful refrigeration and air conditioning business, Commercial Refrigeration. He was an active member of the Optimist Club in the 80s and 90s, working on their newsletter and special events. Bryan loved to tinker, could fix anything and always had a project on the go, including a number of DIY home renos. He owned an abundance of tools and flashlights – his packed garage was a sight to behold. His avid interest in computers came alive when he retired in 2000 – he even built his own computer. For many years he sent out weekly “webbies” to everyone he knew, links to interesting things he found on the internet, and he created and shared PowerPoint slide shows on his favourite subjects, which were many and varied! His creativity also took the form of looking for good deals at second-hand stores for project materials. He made beautiful knives by hand, sewed his own moccasins and patched together many decorative lamps into what could, loosely, be described as art. Bryan laughed easily, loved a good joke, was a great storyteller and was always the life of the party. He was a hard worker and a good husband, son, father, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed. Bryan’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at The Good Samaritan Society South Ridge Village and River Ridge Seniors Village and give special heartfelt thanks to Kreste Sadler for the support and devoted care she provided during the last few years.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. FANDRICH

To e-mail an expression of sympathy, please direct it to: pattfh@telusplanet.net subject heading: Bryan Fandrich, or you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com and leave a message of condolence.

RHONDA SHOEMAKER

May 12, 1951 ~ February 28, 2019

Rhonda Shoemaker (nee Reid) beloved wife of Darryl Shoemaker, passed away on Thursday, February 28th, 2019 at the age of 67 years. Rhonda also leaves to cherish her memory her children, Marissa (Derrick) Jordan; Gordon Shoemaker (Jenn Bomersine); two granddaughters, Marlee and Lara Jordan; one brother, T. Lindsey (Sharon) Reid; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rhonda was predeceased by her father, Gordon Reid (1966); her mother, Carrie Gilchrist (2016); step-dad, William Gilchrist (2017); brother, Ron Reid (2009); and niece, Cynthia Baker (1990).
Rhonda was born on May 12, 1951 in Emo, Ontario to Gordon and Mary “Carrie” Reid. She was raised on the family dairy farm in The Rainy River District with her two brothers until a short time after her dad contracted polio, at which time the family moved to Barwick, Ontario. After graduation she eventually moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where she met the love of her life, Darryl Shoemaker in the spring of 1972. After a brief 6 month courtship, they were married October 14, 1972. Together they eventually settled in Brandon, Manitoba where they welcome their two children, Marissa and Gordon. Employment opportunities led them out west to the small town of Brooks, Alberta where Rhonda was a stay at home mom. She returned to the workforce as the Executive Administrative Assistant, at the Brooks Hospital, until they moved to Medicine Hat in 1992. After working in Medicine Hat at Entre Corp, Rhonda retired and moved with her husband and their critters to Irvine, Alberta for a slower, paced, small-town lifestyle. Rhonda’s health brought her and Darryl back to Medicine Hat in 2018 where they could be closer to their family and especially their granddaughters.
Rhonda was an amazing cook, gardener and ‘mom’ to everyone. She was known to drag home every stray cat, dog or kid she ever came across. She always had a warm meal or jar of homemade grape jelly to give. Rhonda was an avid reader, enjoyed puzzles of all kinds, doing crafts like crocheting, knitting, sewing and cross-stitching, and she took great pride in her yard. Each Spring the house was converted in to a greenhouse to start all her little plants. Though tiny in stature, Rhonda had the heart of a lion and she loved her family and God with everything she had.
Family wishes to extend special thanks to the amazing respiratory care team who looked after Rhonda over the past few years, the wonderful amazing staff on 5E and 4W at the MHRH, as well as very special friend and nurse Sara.

EILEEN OLIVE FELESKY (NEE COOKE), CWAC, RN

May 31, 1924 ~ March 17, 2019

We give thanks for the life of our treasured mother, Eileen “Billie” Felesky who passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at the age of 94 years. We will miss her gentle soul, loving words of wisdom and sense of humour. Mum’s cherished memory will remain in the hearts of her children: Nadine Felesky (Bruce Laflamme), Warren Felesky (Nancy Mann) and Tanis (Patrick) Lockert; grandchildren, Ryan Felesky (Linda Korbyl), Tanner Felesky, Geena Felesky, Spencer Lockert and Jamin Lockert (Alison Dickson); great-grandchildren, Rylan and Reid Felesky and their mother, Shawna Felesky; numerous nieces and nephews as well as her classmate, faithful friend and confidant, Dorothy Hope. Our family is eternally grateful to Mum’s loving caregiver, Teresa Alocada, mahal ka namin lahat. Mum was predeceased by her husband, Harry; her parents, Florence (Dutton) and Edgar Cooke; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doreen (Cecil) Sangster and Kathleen (Vernon) Foss. Mum was born on a very cold day in Medicine Hat on May 31, 1924, and raised and educated in Redcliff, Alberta. She often reflected on her wonderful childhood growing up above their family grocery store, the freedom to ride a bicycle on the open prairie, walking to the river, swimming in the pool which was a foundation of a building that never materialized, knowing all the Redcliff neighbours and citizens, and the safety and security of a small community. At the age of 18, Mum enlisted in the Canadian Woman’s Army Core (CWAC) and served in the Code and Cypher Unit in Ottawa from 1942-1945. Upon discharge in 1946, Mum attended SAIT in Calgary. She then entered Nurses Training at the Medicine Hat General Hospital where she received her RN in 1951 with the award for General Proficiency. Mum and Dad were married in 1951. After working a few years as an RN as Head Nurse on Flat Two, Mum chose to stay home to raise her three children. We were so fortunate for her tender loving care. She was always there to heal our wounds, listen to our problems and offer sound advice. Mum’s words of wisdom will resonate forever: “Be honest and true to yourself and others.” Mum returned to work for several years at the Dr. Dan McCharles Auxillary Hospital as Head Nurse. After retirement, Mum served as a volunteer at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital Gift Shop. Mum was an active member of the Nurse’s Alumnae, Ex-Service Women’s Group and monthly CNIB meetings. She looked forward to her weekly phone calls with her devoted sisters. The happy and peaceful times spent at the Elkwater cabin with family and friends were cherished. Mum had a wonderful sense of humour, was quick witted and always had a come back for those who dared to take her on. We wish to especially thank Kathy, Pam and Suzy Q for keeping Mum beautiful; Dr. Jani, PCN Cathy and all the doctors at Healthworx; mobile lab technicians, Karen and Sandy; as well as her housekeeper, Karen…. it truly takes a village. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, March 22, 2019, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Billie’s Life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend David Pollard officiating. MELVIN JAMES MOGCK

January 18, 1938 to March 24, 2019
Ever Loving – Ever Loved

We give thanks for the life of our treasured husband, father, papa, great grandfather, Melvin Mogck, who passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the age of 81 years. We will miss his gentle soul, loving words of wisdom and sense of humour. Melvin was born on a very cold January day in 1938. That day must have had something to do with his dislike of snow, because he didn’t like having to play around in it all his life. And, wouldn’t you know it, the morning when he passed away, snow was falling! Dad’s cherished memory will remain in the hearts of his wife, Muriel, children – Wanda (John Reinholdt) and Dale Mogck (Lorinda); granddaughter Corryn Mogck (Matthew Grandy), great grandson, Kyler Fountain, great granddaughter due end of June and grandson Jordan Mogck (Kendra). Melvin is survived by his sister Vivian Waldbauer. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Erna Mogck, brothers Garry Mogck and Charles Mogck, brother-in-law Laurence Waldbauer, in-laws Henry and Molly Maerz and brother-in-law Clarence Maerz. Melvin had fond memories of going along with his father hauling grain or working in the field before he was of school age. He was quite young when he had to help with chores – feeding chickens, pigs, geese, turkeys and milking cows. They were always quite fortunate to have a good dog that would bring in the milk cows for them so they didn’t have to walk to get them. Melvin started school in April 1944 at McKay Creek. He played ball at school and his team took championship at Sports Day in Elkwater three years running. For many years before he got married, he was quite involved in community affairs with Graburn Unifarm Association, Community Hall and Walsh Cattle Marketing Association, running alleys at cattle sales. His time with Walsh Cattle Marketing involved many positions, working his way up from a worker to president. This period in his life showed his dedication to the community and his career as a farmer and rancher. On November 29, 1969, he married Muriel Maerz of Three Hills, Alberta and had two children, Wanda Mae born August 19, 1971 and Dale James born March 31, 1974. They were really looking forward to their 50th this coming November. He loved playing with his kids any time he could get. They both took music lessons, played ball and graduated from Irvine High School. Melvin and his family attended Memorial Evangelical Church in Medicine Hat to get spiritually fed as they congregated with relatives and friends on Sundays and special occasions. In 1971, a few months before Wanda was born, Melvin changed his lifestyle to follow Jesus. He also began a weekly Bible study and prayer group in the community that lasted for 20 years. In 1996, amidst rising farming expenses and costs, Melvin decided to sell the farm and ranch and Melvin and Muriel moved to Medicine Hat. In 2001, Melvin joined the Gideons involved with handing out New Testament Bibles to students in Grade 5. He also played men’s senior slow pitch, golfed, bowled, and worked at a landfill. He always enjoyed meeting and working with people. In 2011, Melvin and Muriel moved into Chinook Village where he enjoyed serving on some committees including being a fire warden. He enjoyed Tim Horton’s coffee and Timbits with his German friends. He also played shuffleboard and enjoyed many Skipbo games with friends and family. A special thank you to the nurses and staff on 2 North, 4 West, 5 West, and St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice for their awesome care of Melvin these last 3 months. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held in River Valley Community Church, (1101 Queen Street SE) on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ken Roset and Pastor Thomas Miller officiating. A private interment will take place prior to the funeral service. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to The Gideons (International in Canada) 3123 15th Ave SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 8K1.
