1944 ~ WILLIAM GEORGE ~ 2018

It is with great sadness that we, the family of William (Bill) George, beloved husband of the late Anne George, announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, April 29th, 2018 in Medicine Hat Regional Hospital at the age of 73 years.
Bill was born September 30th, 1944 to Augustus and Elenore in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Although Bill and Anne moved their young family west in 1973 and made Medicine Hat home, he was still a “Newfie” at heart and travelled back many times with his children and grandchildren. In recent years, Bill looked forward to his travels around Canada and the USA with Sue and Clay, his most memorable being to Alcatraz and anywhere they went in Clay’s 57 Chev. He was anticipating the ride to Newfoundland this summer. Bill was a very proud father to his three children and leaves to cherish his memory: son, Jason (Sharon) George; son, Sheldon (Penny) George; and daughter, Sue (Clay) Schweigert. His six grandchildren were the love of his life: Tyran George, Ashtyn George, Devin Mercer, Jayden George, Hayden Schweigert and Logan Schweigert; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Mavis Nixon. Bill was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Anne (2010); his brother, Jerry; and sister, Edna; as well as his grandson, Jayton George. Thank you to the staff at the Medicine Hat Hospital on 5E, the staff in the ER and thank you very much to the staff at River Ridge Seniors home for everything you did for Dad when he was living there. The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Monday, May 7th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. Matthew was born June 14, 1978 in Calgary and moved to Medicine Hat before he was two. Matthew was raised spending many weekends and summers at the family cabin near the Cypress Hills, instilling a life long love for the outdoors, including hunting and fishing. Matthew was a talented musician from an early age, writing his first song at age four. He found his calling in sharing his musical gifts with those around him as a teacher, composer, performer, and production engineer. Following his dream, Matthew and his band moved to Toronto. Matthew’s music was his passion, which inspired artists around him to follow their dreams unapologetically and with deep conviction. His musical talent was an inspiration to those around him and he worked generously and tirelessly to help others achieve their artistic goals. Her special time was in the morning sitting on her lawn swing looking out onto her back yard while enjoying the sun and music. She made her home welcoming to all and had a way of making everyone feel special. Mom loved music and dancing and belonged to the square and round dancing clubs as well as clogging. She was an avid sports fan; Blue Jays and Riders were her teams. Mom also loved to crochet and knit making beautiful heirlooms. The last few years were spent in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Mom made many friends at the AgeCare Valleyview and loved her life there, especially the weekly baking and ice cream socials. She had a positive effect on everyone that she had contact with. She had a kind and welcoming heart that made you feel good when she was around. Faith was a very important part of her life including the fellowship at the Hillcrest church. JEFFREY NEAL WELLING

November 16, 1941 ~ May 5, 2018

Jeff Welling, beloved husband of Snookie Welling, of Medicine Hat passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the age of 76 years after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Jeff also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Joelle (Dean) and Stephanie (Gerald); grandchildren, Jessica, Jonathan and Wesley; siblings, Len (Carol), Yvonne, and Steve (Annabel); nieces and nephews, Leslie, Denise, Gary, Randy, Sandy, Sean and Jennifer; and a large circle of extended family and friends. Jeff was predeceased by his parents, Les and Hilda; his father-in-law, Joe Boschee; his mother-in-law, Miriam Boschee; a sister, Sandy; a nephew, Murray; and a sister-in-law, Sharon. Born in Medicine Hat on November 16, 1941, Jeff graduated from Medicine Hat High School and went on to complete both a Bachelor and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta. Jeff and Snookie started dating in Grade 10 and were inseparable partners in life from that point on. They were married in December 1962, and although he worked for Canadian General Electric in Peterborough, ON. for a time, Medicine Hat was always home. With his Masters degree in hand, Jeff began his teaching career at the Medicine Hat College in 1969, teaching math, physics and first year engineering. Over the next ten years at MHC he got involved in administration as Chairman of the Division of Science, Phys. Ed and Nursing, Acting V.P. Academic for one year, and then Director of Trades Training and Program Development. In 1979, Jeff and Snookie purchased a retail fur store and Jeff began a new career as a furrier. He became a bit of a craftsman making fur coats from mostly beaver and coyote skins that farmers, ranchers and trappers had harvested. He always said that designing and building bridges, motors and generators wasn’t very different from making fur coats! In 1997 Jeff returned to full-time teaching at the college in their new CADD-Technical Illustration program. He retired from the college in 2007. Jeff always believed that you got back what you put into life and this was demonstrated through his involvement in many community organizations and boards, including the local branch of APEGGA, Kinsmen Club (executive positions at both local and national levels), University of Lethbridge Senate, Medicine Hat Chamber of Commerce (President 1985), Medicine Hat Economic Development Advisory Committee, SAIT Board of Governors (1981-1987) and Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede (1982-2017). He was particularly proud of his involvement with the Medicine Hat Community Foundation and was actively involved with the downtown development and business association, even, from time to time, running the projector at the Monarch Theatre without incident! When the occasion presented itself and he could commit the time, involvement in theatrical and musical productions was a particular enjoyment, as was his two terms on the board of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. He loved his church not only for the beauty of the building, but also for the wonderful community that it provided. The thing that really inspired Jeff, though, was his family. Snookie was the love of his life and he was immensely proud of his children, Joelle and Stephanie, who he thought were the best professor and nurse in the world. Their most important accomplishments, though, were his grandchildren, Jessica, Jonathan and Wesley. Supportive of dance and music lessons, he was a cowboy at heart and hauling the horse to 4-H events with Stephanie was a real joy. The horse trailer was ugly and the bus even uglier, but it was “Jeff’s Jewel” and it always got them to where they needed to be! Jeff’s life will be celebrated at Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church, on Friday, May 11, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend David Pollard officiating. If friends desire, memorial donations in Jeff’s name may be made to directly to the Community Foundation of Medicine Hat & S.E. Alberta, #104, 430 – 6 Avenue S.E., Medicine Hat, AB. T1A 2S8 or to the Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church Roof Fund, 476 – 4 Street S.E., Medicine Hat, AB. T1A 0K9. Honoured to serve the family is

1958 ~ GARTH PRICE ~ 2018

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Garth Price, beloved husband of Cheryl Price, on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the age of 59 years. Garth also leaves to cherish his memory step-son, Calvin (Andrea) Martin; three granddaughters, Jade, Alivia, and Charlotte; mother-in-law, Fran Coffey; two brothers, Ray (Joan) Price and Rick Price (Jan Kline); brothers-in-law, Daryl Knowler and Peter Coffey; step sister-in-law, Jan (Dan) Holmedal; step brothers-in-law, Tom Coffey and Russ (Kelly) Coffey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Garth was predeceased by his parents, Al and Evelyn Price; sister, Donna-Ray Knowler; and fathers-in-law, Sonny Martin and Frank Coffey. Garth was born on November 27, 1958 in Medicine Hat and lived his entire life here. He grew up with a love for the outdoors…fishing with his family and friends was one of his favourite things to do. He was employed with CP Rail for 37 years before retiring five years ago. Garth had a great way of telling a story and would have everyone laughing by the end of his tale. He loved spending time with his family and especially loved spending time with his granddaughters. Fedoruk, Walter William

,
August 20, 1933 – May 6, 2018,
aged 84 years, was born in the Shell River District of Manitoba to John and Mary Fedoruk (nee Labuke). He grew up with his two brothers and one sister in the Grandnarrows District of Manitoba where he attended school. After finishing school, he took a job at the Neil Mckinnon farm. This job was just down the road from another farm that he had to walk past on his way to work. This was the farm where Eileen lived with her parents and it wasn’t long before they met. Walter and Eileen were married on November 10, 1956 in Vancouver, B.C. where he worked as an Iron Worker Local 97. Their daughter was born while they were in Vancouver and in 1958 they moved their small family back to Saskatchewan where Walter continued to work and began farming with his father John. It was during these years that he and Eileen raised their growing family of five children.
Walter’s favorite work was farming but he also worked as an Iron Worker, Truck Driver, Heavy Equipment Operator and as an Oil Rig Driller. Other than farming, much of his work was during the winter months and kept him away from home. Come spring, he was ready to go back to the farm and his family. Later in life, when Walter semi-retired and moved back to To go full time, he continued to enjoy helping various farmers with their work. He also tilled gardens for friends but what he enjoyed most of all was getting into his truck and going for a drive in the countryside. He would end his drive with coffee and a good laugh with friends.
Walter is survived by his wife Eileen (nee Ruf); daughter Betty (Brent) Paley; sons David (Darlene), Tim, Chris (Ida), Lorne (Paula); thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary, and grandsons Jamie and Colin.
In keeping with Walters’ wishes, a family graveside service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in Memory of Walter may do so to the Saskatchewan Heart and Stroke Foundation 1738 Quebec Avenue, Unit 26, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, S7K 1V9.

Those wishing to make a donation in Memory of Walter may do so to the Saskatchewan Heart and Stroke Foundation 1738 Quebec Avenue, Unit 26, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, S7K 1V9. 1940 ~ GLADYS ANDERSON ~ 2018

Gladys Edith (Sheward) Anderson, beloved wife of the late Eric Anderson, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 18th, 2018 surrounded by family and friends at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Gladys was born in Medicine Hat on January 10th, 1940 to Fred and Doris Sheward, a sister for Jim. She attended Elizabeth and Elm Street Schools and from seven years of age, she grew up living on the Stampede Grounds, maybe where her fascination for the cowboy life was triggered. Her working history was intertwined with her social life, for Gladys was interested in people, never hesitating to engage in conversation. Her memory for the people she met–incredible. She worked at Woolworth's 1956-1969, OK Economy 1969-1976, Crescent Heights Pharmacy 1976-1982, Sept's Drugstore 1982-1983, and Woolco 1984-1994. Thirty-eight years of work which she was very proud of.
She married the love of her life on August 31st, 1963 for the next 46 years they enjoyed all life had for them including rodeo, Polka-fests, Tiger hockey games, travelling to 10 different countries, many nights at the Moose, attended the NFR in Las Vegas (18 years in a row) and in Edmonton, camping and socializing with relatives and friends. Although she had no children of her own, she demonstrated that family was important to her, in her dedication to her mom and the Anderson family history, which she and Eric collected and recorded in her meticulous albums. Leaving a very important legacy for us to cherish.
A lot can be said about a person by the friends they have, and Gladys had many, but certainly her long-time friend Alfreida Vorra and her family have held a special place in her heart and instrumental in her quality of life especially the past nine years. For example, all of the holiday dinners and Tiger hockey games that Don took her too, they were hi-light evenings. This year Gladys and Don were even featured on the Kissing Cam! Gladys kept busy and continued her love of dancing, even line dancing up to a year ago. For the last five years Gladys has been a resident at Meadowlands where her outgoing, adventurous personality encouraged both her peers and the staff, she was a participator and that really accentuated her life's motto—'living life to the fullest’ and as she said on her last days, “I've had a good life–but I miss my family”.
There are many more things that could be shared about Gladys, her amazing organization and recording skills, her taste for beautiful clothes and jewelry, her pride and care of her home and appearance, but the most precious was her memory for people and their names, after all isn't that honouring those we meet and care about. She was predeceased by her husband, Eric; her parents, Fred and Doris Sheward; her brother, Jim Sheward; brothers-in-law, Bobby, Eddy, Donald and Lee Anderson, Roy Chesney, George Simpson, and Art Sheward; and sisters-in-law, Diane Sheward, Florence Anderson, Annabelle Sheward, Mildred Simpson, and Leona Chesney.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, on Friday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 1:30 until 2:25 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, on Saturday, May 26th, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. with Dr. David J. “God saw you getting tired
when a cure was not to be.
So He closed His arms
around you and whispered
“Come to Me.”
You didn’t deserve what
you went through,
so He gave you rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.
And when we saw you sleeping
so peaceful and
free from pain,
we could not wish you back
to suffer that again.”
