Hilda was born in Manyberries on July 16, 1927. Hilda received her education in a small country school house, a three mile trek from the family farm. During the winters when it was too risky to walk to class, she lived with the teacher. In exchange for room and board she was responsible to rise early and build a fire in the iron stove, and to clean the classroom each day. She was also required to help her father and step-mother the rest of the year with the farm chores as her brother had died young and her older sisters had each married and moved away. When she was 18, she was invited to spend the summer with friends in Redcliff. She was hired by Dominion Glass and there she met the love of her life, Don. She married Don at St. Ambrose Anglican Church in Medicine Hat on May 11, 1947. Hilda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who deeply loved her family. She will be fondly remembered for her wonderful hospitality. Her home was a sanctuary where all who entered would be sure tofind a welcoming smile and hug, nourishing food and lots of laughter. Hilda will forever be immortalized in our memories as a beautiful woman in every sense of the word. We rejoice with her that her suffering is over and she is home and reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her. A memorial celebration service for Hilda will be held in the summer of 2018. DONNA MARIE ELLIOTT

August 5, 1963 – April 17, 2018
Today, we lost someone who made and impact on everyone she has met. Donna Marie Elliott left us but not without making ever lasting memories. Either it would be from her newfie jokes to advice that a mother could only provide. She was there to listen or be a shoulder to cry on. She loved all her friends and family but always let her kids know that they were her greatest accomplishment in her life. She always made being a mother first her main goal and succeeded in it. She would take in kids into her house and treated them as if they were one of her own. She may have left us too soon but the memories she left us will last a life time. As a sparkle in the sky or a ray of sunshine, she will always be looking over us, reminding us that she is watching us, guiding and loving us every moment.

MACKINTOSH, GEORGE WRIGHT

George Wright Mackintosh, formerly of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 years in Edmonton, AB on Sunday, April 22, 2018.
George was born on November 14, 1921, in Edmonton, the son of Mabel and George Mackintosh. As the son of the Edmonton Journal’s longtime sports editor, George was consumed by sports, both as a fan and an athlete. An athlete, who excelled in track and field and lacrosse, he was also a passionate fan of the Edmonton Oilers and Edmonton Eskimos. Until the very end, he subscribed to the Edmonton Journal and read the sports pages every day.
A graduate of Victoria Composite High School, George received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and signed up with the RCAF in 1942, serving the duration of the Second World War in England as a radar operator.
A determined bachelor, George was very much his own person, always true to himself. He enjoyed a lifelong career as a land agent in Calgary and Medicine Hat. During his career, he loved conversations with farmers and their families. He also possessed a formidable knowledge of Alberta’s geography and could describe the various markers of many backroads, including the ones which were “hardtops.”
He was appreciated by all who knew him for his gentle sense of humour and ability to draw people out.
George will be greatly missed by his nephew, Ian Stewart and his wife, Judy Piercey of Edmonton; and his nephew, Sandy Stewart, his wife Darlene Leavitt and sons Callum and Andrew of North Saanich, BC. He was predeceased by his sister, Shelia Stewart; and brother-in-law, Neil Stewart.
Our family extends deepest gratitude to the compassionate care provided by the staff of Extendicare Holyrood in the past two and half years since Uncle George moved back to Edmonton from Medicine Hat.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, April 27 at 3:00 p.m. at Northern Lights Cemetery, 15203 – 156 Street, Edmonton with a Memorial Service to follow at 4 p.m. at Park Memorial Reception Centre, 11015 – 101 Street, Edmonton. 1922 ~ MARION DUNBAR ~ 2018

Marion Audrey (Walton) Dunbar passed away in Medicine Hat on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the age of 95 years. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Greg (Dorthy) Walton of Brooks; Pam (Ken) Steeves of Medicine Hat; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; three sisters: Joy Munro (Kelowna), Shirley Christie (Lethbridge) and Gwen (Carlo) Henningsen (Racine, WI).
Mom was born in Calgary, AB on May 28, 1922 and lived in Olds, AB until after she was married. The oldest daughter of Warren and Mable Kemp, she had a very happy small-town childhood and has remained close to her three sisters and their families.
Mom completed her education at the Olds School of Agriculture in 1941. She married her childhood sweetheart, Tom Walton, in 1943. Tom was a naval officer and their first years of marriage were spent apart due to Tom being overseas in WW II. During Tom’s absence, Marion worked for AGT in Olds and then Calgary. After returning from the war, Marion and Tom lived on a farm in Olds where their three children were born; Tim, Greg and Pam.
Due to Tom’s health, the family moved north to High Prairie in 1956 and then Grande Prairie in 1962 for Tom’s work. At the age of 45, mom completed a secretarial course in Grande Prairie; then worked at Eatons, the Credit Bureau, AMA and eventually Alberta Disaster Services. She and Tom loved trailering with the Trumpeter Swan Trailer Club.
Marion’s parents and son, Tim, passed away in 1976; and in 1978, Tom died suddenly.
For many years after that, mom worked and spent weekends camping in her mini motorhome.
In 1990, mom married Sam Dunbar. They spent their years together enjoying the trailer club in the summer and travelling to Yuma in the winter. When Sam could no longer travel south, they spent several winters in Sydney, BC. Sam taught mom to golf and they truly enjoyed their time with friends and family. Sam passed away in 2001.
Mom’s life included three Caribbean cruises, several trips to Alaska, as well as Scotland and Japan. She moved from Grande Prairie to Medicine Hat and loved her new home at Chinook Village.
Marion was an amazing woman who drove her car until she was 90. She was competent on the computer; loved to email friends and could still check her bank account online well into her 90’s. She embraced new technology, always wanting to keep up.
Through all of her life losses, Marion’s strong faith in God gave her strength and in later years she looked forward to being in Heaven. Opa was born in Gross Oesingen, Saxony, Germany on April 7, 1930 and was the last surviving sibling in his family of 11 children. Erich was predeceased by his wife, Elsie (Oma) on August 31, 2015, and their daughter Christine in 2012, as well as 5 sisters, and 5 brothers. Opa had a rock-solid faith in the Lord Jesus. His unwavering faith was and is an inspiration to all who knew him. Opa enjoyed reading since a young boy and just completed reading Martin Luther’s 300-page biography in his final days. Opa was an excellent cabinetmaker and craftsman graduating 2nd in his class and having completed numerous beautiful projects for St. Paul’s Church and many others. It was such a blessing for Opa to be able to share crisp memories of people, dates and events even from his early childhood right up until his final breath.
The family would like to thank all those friends and family who brightened his final days with visits, laughter, conversation and goodies. The family would also like to thank Dr. Monty and Dr. Josh Foley as well as the staff of St. Joseph’s Home, including the amazing, sweet nurses who provided such loving care since his arrival on March 9. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and at ST.
