FERGUSON

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Jeff Ferguson – but it is with great privilege that we celebrate his life. Jeff leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents Bob and Eileen Ferguson, his sisters Shannon Bissanti and Janice Hepfner, whom he lovingly called Trixie and Bubbles, brothers-in-law Matt Bissanti and Jayme Hepfner, nieces Kali, Amelie and Bella Bissanti from Austin, Texas and Jada and Jake Hepfner from Calgary. He also leaves his long time friend Brenda Bartuccio and many other close friends. Jeff was born on January 7th, 1966 in High River, Alberta. He had several family moves with his dad’s work with Imperial Oil to Grand Prairie, Edmonton, Vancouver, St. Albert and finally settling in Medicine Hat in 1978, when his dad opened up an Esso service station. His life was filled with many great accomplishments. In his teenage years, he became a certified glider and also had his private pilot’s license. After graduating from McCoy High School in 1984, Jeff was accepted into the Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP) for the Canadian Air Force. His training took him to various places including Comox, Cold Lake, Portage la Prairie and Brandon. After a career change, Jeff was accepted to the Emergency Medical Training program in Vermillion, AB where he became a certified EMT and firefighter. Most of Jeff's EMT career was in Fort McMurray and northern Alberta. Jeff had a great passion for the Spanish language and culture and he travelled extensively in South America and went to school in Guatemala. In February of 2013 he moved to Nicaragua, the place he considered to be his true home. He hoped to live the rest of his days there. His injury took his freedom away and it was required for him to return to Medicine Hat in July, 2014 for medical reasons. Jeff was always creating an adventure in whatever he did, whether that was repelling off mountains, guiding white water rafting tours, skiing black diamonds, flying airplanes, riding horses, fighting fires, back-country camping or travelling around the world. Whatever he did, it was big and bold . Jeff will be greatly missed and remembered for his quick wit, his dry sense of humour and his passion for all things extreme. He was a free spirit, an extreme enthusiast, a true intellect and a loyal friend to many. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend officiating. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, those who wish to remember Jeff with a donation may direct it to the Canadian Mental Health Association 204 – 1865 Dunmore Rd. SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 1Z8. To e-mail an expression of sympathy, please direct it to: pattfh@telusplanet.net subject heading: Jeff Ferguson, or you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com and leave a message of condolence.

HILARY GERARD GUEST

July 3, 1930 – December 8, 2017
Hilary Gerard Guest of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the age of 87 years. Hilary was born July 3,1930 in Holmesville, New Brunswick. He was the son of the late John Francis Guest and Annie Guest (Brennan). He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine (Bunny) Guest and brothers Paul, Joseph and James Guest.
Hilary loved the simple things in life. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and the local bridge club. His first love was for family and friends and his second greatest passion would have to be cards – any game any time! And of course he always enjoyed getting a laugh with a silly remark. Hilary will be greatly missed by his five children, John Guest (Brenda), Doug Guest, Patrick Guest (Kathy), Peter Guest (Michelle), Thomas Guest (Crystal); 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; his sister Margret Sinski, many relatives, his dear friends the Petke family and the Rose family and many other friends. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Friday evening, December 15, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday, December 16, from 10:00 to 10:55 a.m. The funeral mass for Hilary will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a Knights of Columbus honour guard, and the mass will be followed by a light lunch at the church. Interment will be at a later date. Donations can be made to the charity of your choice. Together they had 3 children; 1 son and 2 daughters, 6 grandsons and 1 granddaughter, 2 great grandsons and 4 great granddaughters. Manny was born in 1922 in the small Hamlet of Woolchester, Alberta to parents, Jacob and Bertha. Times were hard. At the age of 15, Manny began farm work for various area farmers and at 20 joined the army. The opportunity to work with horses during his service was a perfect fit. He recalled these days as some of the best of his life. Upon returning home from the military he gained employment on the Griffin Ranch in Govenlock, Alberta and later at the Ross Ranch, south of Manyberries. A partnership in 1946 with his younger brother, Johnny in dairy farming would prove to be his life career. In 1949, Manny married the love of his life, Minnie Sieppert and together they worked hard and made a home for their 3 children, Brian, Rocky and Valerie. The next 40 years Minnie and Manny were dedicated to their family and the dairy operation. It was a life Manny loved and one he took great pride in. They retired in 1986 to Medicine Hat and Manny kept busy playing and coaching baseball, bowling and playing pool. Family was very important to him and he especially loved spending time with his grandkids. Manny was a fair and kind man. A man of integrity and compassion and HE LOVED TO DANCE. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, on Friday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at VICTORY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2793 Southview Drive SE, on Saturday, December 23rd, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Jim Bredeson and Chaplain Dallas Hjorth co-officiating. 1934 ~ PEGGY PLANTE ~ 2017

Margaret “Peggy” Plante beloved wife of Lawrence “Larry” Plante of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, December 19th, 2017 at the age of 83 years. Besides her husband, Larry, Peggy leaves to cherish her memory her children: Tom (Debbie) Plante, and Laurel (Ken) Solheim; her grandchildren: Ashley Plante, Stephanie Plante, Michelle Plante, Aaron (Shae-lee) Solheim, Brett Solheim, Tyler Plante, April (Justin) Way, and Sherri Plante; one great grandson, Sutter Way; one brother, Tom (Bernice) Morrison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Peggy was predeceased by one son, Jim Plante; and by her parents, Ralph and Ella Morrison. Mom was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on January 25th, 1934 and passed away on December 19th, 2017. She attended Alexandra High School where she walked to and from school from her home in Crescent Heights. While working as a teller at the Bank of Nova Scotia, mom met Larry Plante in the fall of 1953. He was immediately smitten, and the rest is history! They were married on June 18th, 1955 and soon after they were graced by their first-born son, James “Jim” Lawrence. Thomas “Tom” Edward followed a few years later and then Laurel brought up the rear several years after that. The years in the Plante household were full of company, sports and socializing. Mom kept very busy. She volunteered for several causes, taught Sunday School, canvassed for Heart and Stroke, and for Canadian Cancer for many years until her legs would no longer keep up to her heart, as well as selling tickets for the Blue Jays, Stampede Board, and most notably the Medicine Hat Tigers Hockey Club which spanned 27 years! Mom may not always remember your name every time, but she sure knew what section and seat you sat at in the old arena. Mom loved cooking and baking and there was an endless supply of goodies including cookies, pickles, bread and buns, just to name a few. Her passion however, was her kids and grandkids and her garden. Mom continued to garden up until this past year and could be seen outside in the heat of the day with her old Memorial Cup hat on, happily gardening away. She was a warm and loving mom, grandma and wife, and she made a difference to everyone she met. Her warm smile and caring personality will be sadly missed by all who met her but most of all there will be an ache in the hearts of her loving family. As she was slipping away, she said “Everyone get along and love each other. I love you all!” ‘Til we meet again. The funeral service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Saturday, December 23rd, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. Lorne spent many years on the road and accumulated many miles across Canada and into the United States behind the wheel of one of his beloved semis. His passion and sacrifices were recognized with a Platinum Award in Recognition of achieving 1,000,000 miles of safe driving as a professional driver.
The Trucker’s Lament
You carry a burden…a heavy load,
When you live so much of
your life on the road.
When you spend so many days alone,
the link to your loved ones
becomes the phone.
It’s over the wires that you learn to touch,
the ones who you love…
who you miss so much.
And your little talks and
the laughs you share,
have value to you beyond compare.
Still, the wheels that turn
make a lonesome sound,
Till finally your truck is homeward bound!
Home where your hours will be spent.
Where “love” overshadows
the trucker’s lament.
A celebration of Lorne’s life will be held on Saturday, January 6th, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion canteen room, 702 2nd Street SE. JOSEPH STENGLER

January 30, 1947 ~ December 26, 2017

Our dad was born in 1947 in a little farmhouse near Mankota Saskatchewan to Nicholas and Eleanora Stengler. They named him Joseph, but everyone called him Joe. Growing up on the family farm, he learned not only the value of honest work well done, but also of the enduring value of family. He loved to laugh, but especially with his sisters Martha and Terri, and brothers Art and Steve.
As a young man he moved away from the farm to find his way in the world, when he met and later married our precious mom Doreen, in 1968. Just one year later, he would often remind us, man set foot on the moon. He loved space exploration.
Securing an engineering job at an Empress gas processing plant after the birth of his first son Lance, he moved his young family to Medicine Hat, where he put down deep roots. In quick succession his son Dean and daughter Natalie were born, with Kimberlie tumbling along after a seven year gap. Life became quite busy, and he carried a great pride and love for his family.
A lifelong learner, he was even alarmingly qualified to run a nuclear power plant. Not that he would ever boast, he simply didn’t like to draw attention to himself. From a young age, our dad taught us to have an intense curiosity about the world around us, as well as the importance of mercy. Even through our turbulent teenage years, when random friends would show up in the basement and we would make fools of ourselves, he poured out empathy for our weaknesses. And we carry not only a deep appreciation for his willingness to forgive, but we desire that his legacy of mercy would be reflected in our own families, to his numerous grandkids and beyond.
He loved his wife, his kids, his family, and his friends. Most significantly, though he would rarely talk of it, he entrusted himself and his family to God in faith and prayer. Confiding to his wife he would say, "We need to pray, because the only way things are going to work out is with God." We're going to dearly miss him.
Thank you, Dad, for living your life well. We love you.
A Vigil Prayer Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E., Medicine Hat on Monday, January 8, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. with interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery and a reception thereafter in the Parish Hall.
