It is with profound sadness that the family of Robert “Bob” Kost announce his passing on August 4, 2017 at the age of 86 years. Bob was the second youngest of 12 siblings, born on May 21, 1931 in Schuler. He is survived by Audrey, his wife of 65 years, and two daughters, Gail (Mel) Williams of Crowsnest Pass, and Brenda (Safwat) Gabriel of Vancouver. Also left are two grandchildren, Hayley (Mike) Rayment and Stefan Gabriel; great granddaughter, Heidi; two sisters, Molly Durr and Edna Anheliger and his brother in law, Harold Burkett of Oakville, Ontario as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Otelia Kost and by four brothers and five sisters. Bob worked for the C.P.R. until 1956 when he started Kost Fire Equipment Ltd. He went to work every day until he was 82 at which time, alzheimers took away the man that he was and made it necessary to move him to River Ridge Senior’s Village, where he lived peacefully until his passing. Dad was a hard working man who prided himself on never having missed a day of work. He was completely dedicated to his family. Time spent together meant everything to him. Unfortunately, the disease robbed him of his last few years with us. Until we meet again, we love you and miss you.

Alzheimer’s Request
Do not ask me to remember
Don’t try to make me understand
Let me rest and know you’re with me
Kiss my cheek and hold my hand.

I’m confused beyond your concept
I’m sad and sick and lost
All I know is that I need you
To be with me at all cost.

Do not lose your patience with me
Do not scold or curse or cry
I can’t help the way I’m acting
I can’t be different though I try

Just remember that I need you
That the best of me is gone
Please don’t fail to stand beside me
Love me till my life is gone.

The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Bolender officiating. ALGIRDAS “AL” ARELIS

ALGIRDAS “AL” ARELIS of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Lorene Arelis, passed away on August 9, 2017 at the age of 88 years. Al leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Wendy Arelis, Deanna Arelis (Tom McLeay), and Cheryl Arelis (David Carpenter). He is also survived by his sister, Alduté Koženiauskas, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his father, Liudvikas Arelis, mother Ona Rojus, step-father Petras Rojus, brothers Vytautas and Romualdas, and sister Juraté Smith.
Born in Lithuania, Al and his family emigrated to Canada in 1948 after surviving many hardships during World War II. They settled in Lethbridge, where Al met and married the love of his life, Lorene (née Morgan) and where their daughters were born. With Lorene’s help and his steely determination, both Al’s English and his career prospects in retail sales steadily improved. He accepted a managerial position in Medicine Hat, where Al moved the family and became involved in recreation, military, education, and community service.
A natural athlete, Al excelled at every sport including tennis, soccer, and figure skating, but the game he loved best was definitely golf, which he took up later in life and continued to play and enjoy well into his 80s. Al especially loved the camaraderie shared amongst his golf buddies, and had great times with them every week as well as on several California golf trips.
Al had wonderful memories of his homeland, but was first and foremost a proud Canadian, choosing to have inscribed on his headstone: “Lithuanian by birth; Canadian by choice”. Al served his country of choice by first joining the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1953, then the South Alberta Light Horse in 1955, where he excelled and moved quickly through the ranks. He retired in 1974 as CWO while serving as RSM. In 1967, Al was honoured to receive the Regimental Guidon from Princess Alexandra during Canada’s centennial year. He was also awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration and Bar, the Canadian Centennial Medal, the Alberta Centennial Medal, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
A true lifelong learner, Al welcomed every opportunity to further his education, including working part-time for a year in 1967 to study Business Science at the Medicine Hat College. Al felt the most important thing he could do for his children was to instill in them his own love of learning, which lives on and inspires his family’s younger generations.
A strong advocate of community service, Al was a member of several local service clubs and volunteer committees, including serving on the Medicine Hat College Foundation Board of Directors from 1995-2006, acting as Chair for seven of those years. In 2004, Al was named Medicine Hat College Alumnus of the Year, in recognition of his volunteerism and family’s generous financial contributions to MHC.
Above all else, Al was devoted to and proud of his family. He took great interest in all family members’ accomplishments and could always be counted on to sing their praises to anyone who would listen! We love and miss him deeply.
The funeral service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. Interment will take at Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial gifts in Al’s name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 340A Maple Avenue SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 7L5, to Parkinson Alberta, #101, 928 Allowance Avenue SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 3G7 or to the South Alberta Light Horse Regimental Association, c/o Patterson Armoury, 120 Cuyler Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1B 3M4. She resided at the Garden Apartments, South Country Village until her hospitalization in June of 2017. She passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Medicine Hat. 1942 ~ AUDREY AMMANN ~ 2017

With great sadness we announce the passing of Audrey Ammann, wife, mother, grandmother and friend on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the age of 75 years. Audrey is survived by her husband of 56 years, Fred Ammann, loyal sons Darren (Sarah) and Todd (Elisha). She was known as the “World’s Best Grandma” to Tanner, Tyler, Grace and Emily. Audrey is also survived by her loving sisters Janice (James) Austin and Ethel and their families. Extended family and many friends will also miss Audrey’s smile. Born in Medicine Hat, AB on January 15, 1942 to Otto and Frieda Reuer, Audrey grew up in both Medicine Hat and the family farm in Alliance, AB. Audrey enjoyed her childhood on the farm with her sisters Janice and Ethel and their weekly trips to town for the movie theatre and, as they became teens, to Saturday night dances. Audrey moved back to Medicine Hat to attend college, during which time she was introduced to Freddie Ammann. She immediately fell in love with his “Elvis style” hair and charm and in 1961 they were married. In 1963 they welcomed their first son Darren. Audrey loved being a mother and savored every moment. Later they moved to Stettler, Alberta, where they welcomed their second son Todd. Audrey dotted after her children and was always cooking their favorite dishes for them, right until the last months of her life. After a move back to Medicine Hat in 1970 Audrey and Fred invested in and managed a new hotel, the Travelodge. Hotel life was busy but they took pride in their work and made many lasting friendships along the way. The arrival of grandsons Tanner and Tyler brought a new focus to Audrey’s life as becoming a Grandmother was one of her greatest joys. During retirement Audrey and Fred continued traveling all over the world…warm weather was always Audrey’s favorite destination, Hawaii especially. When granddaughters Grace and Emily arrived Audrey relished in spoiling her little girls, whether it was with fancy dresses or ice cream, Grandma would never say no. Audrey was always generous to those she knew and loved. Happy to share her love of cooking of kuchen, strudel, cabbage rolls or homemade pickles, everyone always enjoyed a meal at Audrey and Fred’s home. Her infectious laughter, determination and warm hugs will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at MEDICINE HAT EXHIBITION AND STAMPEDE GROUNDS, AUDITORIUM, 2055 – 21 Avenue SE, on Monday, August 28th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob Findley officiating.

Audrey is also survived by her loving sisters Janice (James) Austin and Ethel Reuer and their families. Audrey moved back to Medicine Hat to attend college, during which time she was introduced to Freddy Ammann. KALISTA

Marion Kalista, one of the most loving, selfless individuals who touched so many lives during her time on this earth, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at the age of 86 years. Marion lived an extraordinary life, born in Tientsin, North-China where she lived until the age of fifteen. During the time of the War, the family departed back to Germany. In 1953, Marion and her husband Joseph Kalista, along with their daughter, immigrated to Canada. Edmonton was where they settled – in 1955 Marion gave birth to twin boys, Bob Kalista and George Kalista. Those who knew Marion could see the love she carried for her boys and two granddaughters, Maddison Kalista and Brooklyn Kalista-Braun. Family was everything, we all dearly miss her presence, it is one that can never be replaced. The memories made and love shared will always be held so close and never forgotten. Marion loved people, she was the true essence of the saying “Do onto others, as you would have them do onto you”. During her last days, she looked forward to her celebration of life and we look forward to being able to honour someone who has given so much and taken so little. The celebration of Marion’s life will take place at the Medicine Hat Golf & Country Club on August 31, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., we welcome family, friends and those who knew Marion, to take the time to enjoy this special day. Al is survived by Jeannette, his wife of fifty eight years and their children Christine (Barry) Kostiuk and their children Victoria and Justin; Steven (Tracy) Kondor and their family Cameron, Trent and Alli; Yvonne Millette and her daughter Ashley; Tracey (Mike) Collard and their daughters Samantha and Jessica; Martin (Benita) Kondor and their children Aimee and Blake; Brian (Michele) Kondor and their children Nik, Derrick and Rachel. He is also survived by his sister Mary, sister Annie (Ken) Harper, his brother Tony (Irma) Kondor and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother Teresa Baker, his father Martin Kondor, his brothers Steven Kondor, Joseph Kondor, his granddaughter Megan.
Al was born on June 13, 1938 in Medicine Hat and grew up on his family farm in Vauxhall until leaving to serve in the Canadian Air Force as an airplane mechanic. He served in the Forces until he returned to take care of the family farm after the passing of his father where lived the rest of his life and raised his family. The farm quickly became and remained one of his greatest sources of pride and he put all of his hard work into ensuring it thrived throughout his life.
Al took the greatest joy from supporting his children in all of their endeavors and extended that passionate interest to all of his grandchildren. As a father, Al spent his time actively involved in his children’s participation in 4-H, hockey and baseball and when he was not taking his children to sporting events, he was loading them into the van for one of many memorable family ski trips. As a grandfather, he shared the same interest and actively sought to be involved in each of his grandchildren’s lives and could be found in the stands cheering or on the sidelines encouraging at every given opportunity, be it to support academic, athletic or personal challenges. His warmth and humour were felt by all who had the opportunity to meet him and you could often catch him flash a peace sign as his favourite goodbye.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Al’s name may be made directly to STARS, 1441 Aviation Park NE, PO Box 570, Calgary Alberta, T2E 8M7 (www.stars.ca), a charity that Al greatly valued and was dedicated to supporting.

This past Saturday, hundreds of friends and family gathered at St. Andrew’s United Church to celebrate the life of this much liked and well respected man. “May the work I’ve done speak for me.”

Miss me a little – but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low…
Remember the love we all shared,
Miss me – but let me go!

His Life Lived…
His Life Cherished…
His Life Honoured.

Her kids and grandsons were her biggest pride and joy and Oma did everything possible to ensure they were showered with her gifts of love and attention, not to mention her incredible cooking and baking treats.
Her greatest attribute was her generosity, whether of her love, time and dedication to not only her family and friends but also to anyone she met.
