Mrs. Katherine Wagner of Medicine Hat, passed away surrounded by her family at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the age of 88 years. Katherine leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Wayne (Diane) Wagner and Stan Wagner; three daughters, Bev Wagner, Jackie (Rick) Seipp and Maxine (Alan) Ziebart; nine grandchildren, Troy (Aimee) Wagner, Matthew (Ashley) Wagner, Chantell (Chris) Lerner, Brad (Alison) Seipp, Lindsey (Brad) Schneider, Lucas (Kelsey) Wagner, Jessica Wagner, Kayla (Chris) Seipp and Christopher Wagner; nine great- grandchildren, Ava Wagner, Lexi Wagner, Reid Lerner, Jaelyn Schneider, Kael Lerner, Maci Schneider, Clara Seipp, Everly Wagner and Emmett Seipp; three sisters-in-law, Ester Wagner, Molly Wagner and Clara Crews; and one brother-in-law, Dan Wingenbach. Katherine was predeceased by her husband, Wendlin; one grandchild, Daximus Wagner; her parents, Nicholas and Molly Senger; two brothers, Tony Senger and Mike Senger; and three sisters, Annie Schmaltz, Irene Wason and Lena Stroh. Katherine was born on May 16, 1928 on the family farm near Mendham, Saskatchewan. After attending Normal School in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan she taught in two one room school houses (Dante School and Heg School). She spent the next ten years raising a family with her husband Wendlin on the family farm. In 1965 the family moved to Mendham and she resumed her teaching career until her retirement in 1987. In 1989 Katherine and Wendlin moved to Medicine Hat where she resided until the time of her passing. Throughout her life Katie had a strong faith in God and was very proud of recently receiving her 50 year CWL pin. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, watching sports, cooking and baking. Katie spent countless hours sharing her love with her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known as the best cookie Grandma. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, on Wednesday from 6:00 until 9:00 pm. Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 1451 Strachan Road SE, on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Martin Moser, Celebrant. A private Interment will take place in the Roman Catholic Section at Hillside Cemetery. Dora Mary Brink went home to be forever with her Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at the age of 91 years, beloved wife of the late Wilfred Laurence “Larry” Brink. – Mr. Hans LeBlanc, a 56 year member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, local 496, passed away January 23, 2017. The Officers, Members & Staff extend their deepest sympathy.
LIEN SVENSON
– Wendy Lien Svenson of Brooks, beloved wife of Rod Svenson of Brooks, passed away in Calgary on Monday, January 23rd, 2017 at the age of 62 years. Wendy lived on the family farm 6 miles north of Irvine and graduated high school in Irvine. Wendy then continued her education at Medicine Hat College, Medicine Hat Campus (1972-1973), University of Alberta, Bachelor of Physical Education (1976) and University of Lethbridge, Bachelor of Education (1977). Starting in September 1977, she taught grade 6 at Central Elementary School, Brooks, until the school was restructured in 2003, then finished her career at Griffin Park School, Brooks and retired in June 2005. Wendy married Rodney Svenson on May 31st, 2003 in her new home in Brooks. Wendy loved animals her entire life. As a child on the family farm, she would name almost every chicken, calf, milk cow and the occasional lamb, but her favorites were always the horses. Wendy fell in love with Rod’s little dog Jasper, and will be missed by her newest little dog Sophie. She was always an athlete at heart, and after winning the Canada West Championship with her 1972-73 college basketball team, she and the team were inducted into the Medicine Hat College Rattler’s Hall of Fame in 2011. Wendy loved her flowers and could often be found tending the pots or just admiring the products of her work. Her biggest love was always family, and was especially proud of the accomplishments of her nieces, nephews, their children and her grandchildren. Wendy belonged to various positions and committees with the Brooks United Church, helped with Elementary School track meets and served on various community boards. Wendy will be best remembered for her inner strength, character and her gentle loving soul. She was predeceased by her mother Mary (Becker) Lien and father Leonard Lien. Wendy is survived by her loving family, husband Rod; Rod’s son Duane Svenson (Janet Smigelski) and their children Reid, Emilie and son, Matthew Svenson; sister Carol (Malcolm) Jones and their children, Dayne (Christine Aiken) Jones, children Fletcher, Madeleine and Jo Lien Jones and sister Janet (Jerry) Schlenker and their children Rhonda (Cody) Snyder, children Jordyn, Reese and Jay (Kjersti Larson) Schlenker, children Maryn and Rylee. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 3rd at 2:00 PM from Brooks United Church, Brooks. Rev. Esther Baerends officiating. Interment to be held at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Wendy, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Brooks and District Health Foundation, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B3.
